The starting point is the mountain station of the Feuerkogel cable car. On hiking trail no. 835, which is initially even asphalted, you stroll past mountain inns and cross the eastern slope of the Heumahdgupf via the lower Latschengasse (the upper one is the path to the Alberfeldkogel). At the end of the Vorderes Edltal valley, the path divides at the striking crossroads. Turn right to the Alberfeldkogel, straight ahead to the Riederhütte and left to the Helmeskogel. Follow trail no. 837 to the left until you pass the summit cross of the Helmeskogel (1633 m) and reach the viewing platform. For the return hike, follow the path you have already hiked. Experienced hikers can choose the path to the Steinkogel (turn off to the right) as an alternative after around a third of the way back. Here you cross a lift track and reach the Vordere Edltal. HIKING TIME: Mountain station - Helmeskogel - return: approx. 2 1/4 hours (4.4 km) Circular hike mountain station - Alberfeldkogel - Helmeskogel - mountain station: approx. 3 1/2 hours (approx. 7 km) The values given under "Tour details" apply to one route.
