**Description:**
The Kalkalpen National Park nature experience trail is ideal for families with children and nature lovers who prefer less strenuous and shorter hikes. Along the way, there are managed alpine huts inviting you to stop and relax.
Centuries ago, on the "provision route" over Hengstpass, workers at the Styrian Erzberg were supplied with provisions and in return carried "provision iron" on the way back. To spare the draft animals, stallions were provided at the former pass station at Egglalm.
The "Hengsti" shows the way and invites you to discover the colorful diversity step by step "from Alm to Alm".
**Directions:**
The themed trail at Hengstpass is a circular route between Puglalm, Karlhütte, and Laussabauernalm with a connection to Egglalm.
At the foot of Kampermauer, past Puglalm, the path leads through pastures that transition into a wooded area. After crossing Hengstpass road, Laussabaueralm is already in sight. From there, the trail follows along the Rotkreuz stream to the Rot-Kreuz chapel, where you can learn more about the healing effects of the Rot-Kreuz spring. A short climb to Hengstpass road completes the circuit. Walking time is 2 hours at a leisurely pace.
**Tip:**
Please do not forget to save the route "offline" before you start, as mobile phone reception in the forest wilderness of the national park is not always available.

The stations of the nature experience trail "From Alm to Alm" are **set up for you from Mother's Day until early November** (depending on snow conditions)

Die Nationalpark Hengstpasshütte liegt direkt an der Passhöhe und ist ein idealer Ausgangspunkt für Wanderungen und Radtouren in den Nationalpark Kalkalpen. Im Winter bietet das Gebiet um den Hengstpass zahlreiche Möglichkeiten für Schneeschuhwanderungen und Schitouren.

Puglalm
Die bewirtschaftete Puglalm ist ein beliebter Einkehrpunkt am Hengstpass. Sie liegt am Erlebnisweg ["Von Alm zu Alm" ](https://www.outdooractive.com/r/10162282/) welcher für Familien mit Kindern gut zu erwandern ist.
Von der Puglalm genießt man schöne Panoramablicke auf die umliegenden Berggipfel. Grasfrösche, Bergmolche und Gelbbauchunken tummeln sich am Biotop unweit des Almgebäudes und bunte Schmetterlinge flattern auf der Almweide von Blüte zu Blüte. Die nahen Felswänder der Kampermauer sind Lebensraum für seltene Vogelarten.

Die Alm ist auch mit Fahrrad und Auto erreichbar.
Rot-Kreuz-Kapelle
Vor mehr als 100 Jahren wurde die Rot-Kreuz-Kapelle an Stelle eines Roten Kreuzes an der heilbringenden, gleichnamigen Quelle errichtet. 1975 wurde sie weiter bachabwärts neu gebaut und im September 1976 eingeweiht. Jedes Jahr am ersten Sonntag nach Matthäus, das ist der 21. September, zieht ein Prozessionszug zur Kapelle.

Zickerreith
Die Zickerreith Almhütte liegt direkt an der Hengstpass Landesstraße unweit der Passhöhe und ist ein ideler Ausgangspunkt für Wanderungen und Radtouren im Nationalpark Kalkalpen.
Die Zickerreith ist ganzjährig bewirtschaftet. In der urigen Almstube kann man gemütlich einkehren und rasten. Übernachtungsmöglichkeit in in gemütlichen 2er, 6er und 10er Bettenlagern gegen Voranmeldung möglich.
