You will see a tempting path in the slope that has been prepared by ski tourers, but you shouldn't go there in snowshoes as it is simply too narrow. Then it's uphill and downhill in hilly terrain, always following the marker poles towards the Großer Höllkogel, a prominent mountain to the left of the Riederhütte. Shortly before this comes the key section, a dip that you have to negotiate with snowshoes. Good poles are required here. Shortly before the Höllkogelgrube, the Große Höllkogel towers to the left, which can also be climbed on snowshoes or touring skis, but the ascent is steep. Magnificent view! From the Höllkogelgrube it is only 20 minutes to the hut, which is normally open in winter from mid-February to Easter and is a welcome place to stop for a bite to eat. Especially when the sun invites you to sit outside and you are surrounded by the marvellous winter landscape. Return along the same path (do not use the "summer path", which is too dangerous and impassable with snowshoes). Walking time there and back without detours: a good 4 hours NOTE: Ski tours and snowshoe hikes in open terrain require responsible behaviour with regard to weather and snow conditions.
