Nordic walking and cycling possible! From the market square, head towards Almegg as far as the Almbrücke bridge. Turn right along the Alm (nature reserve!) to the Penninger Steg (running mile). Continue to the "Laudachmündung detour", follow the signs to the right to Holzmarkt Schindlauer, past the Au train stop to the Biobauern-Saalachhof (Ennser family - a cosy stop-off point for those thirsty for cider), then continue along Saalachstraße towards Bad Wimsbach to the Hochleitner sports and shoe centre. To the left of this is the Mostschank-Huemer (Fr-Su from 16:00). From there, a romantic footpath leads past Pension Haick (e-bike hire station, private room hire) back to the starting point, the market square. There again, several refreshment stops await the hiker. You can also visit the historic market square, the Hackenschmiedemuseum and the parish church of St Stephanus. The "Almauen" nature reserve is located on both sides of the Alm, starting at the confluence of the Laudach to the Stögmüller weir. Here you can admire junipers, red pines, heather, coneflowers, snow roses, cyclamen, monkshood, daphne, spring gentian, Turk's cap, columbine and various orchid species.
