At the cottage there is a turn-off to a forest path (watch out for the signpost next to a gatepost!). You then have the choice of hiking over the Iron Cross to the hermit's hut (the last section leads right through the forest and is a little steep, but otherwise easy to walk on) or staying on the forest road. The spot at the hut invites you to take a short break, as this place has a very calming and energising effect.Then cross the stream and pass a cabbage patch to reach the Hehenberg goods road. Follow the road towards Große Mühl and turn right at the second farmhouse. Passing an old draw well, you reach the Schönberg ruins - a short detour away from the path - from where you have a beautiful view over the Mühl valley.There are also unusual seating areas where you can take a short break.
