The hike leads **from the centre of Unterach am Attersee to the village of "Ort am Mondsee"** and back to Unterach am Attersee. Along side roads up from the town centre, you take an idyllic forest path to Ort am Mondsee, where you can cross the main road and walk back to the starting point on the other side along the Seeache river. The themed trail deals with the life and achievements of the inventor Viktor Kaplan, who invented the Kaplan turbine, among other things. Starting from the Viktor Kaplan monument in the Unterach recreational area, the well-signposted Viktor Kaplan theme trail leads across the main square and the lower part of Kirchengasse, Kirchenplatz steadily uphill to the kindergarten and onwards under the Attersee federal road to Kohlstatt. Follow the Kohlstatt road, which opens up an extensive settlement and then climbs up the slope to the north. You come to the first of the **display boards**, which are distributed along the entire circular trail and provide information about the famous inventor Viktor Kaplan (1876 - 1934), but also about **geological topics**. At the fork in the road after house no. 61, take the left-hand path, at the end of which a forest path begins. After about 10 minutes, you will reach **Rochuspoint**, the former residence of Kaplan with several buildings and a pond. After another 150 metres, you reach the **mausoleum** where Kaplan is buried. The path remains on the hill for approx. 1 km and then leads back down into the valley along the waterfall path. There you can stop off at the Gasthaus See am Mondsee before crossing the Seeache and walking back to Unterach along its southern shore. You will pass the **small power station with Kaplan turbine** at the Sandoz/EBEWE company. At the Unterburgau footbridge, you cross the Seeache again at the campsite and return to the leisure area.
