Winter maintenance crews do not clear or secure the trail. It’s best to start on the left side of the lake. There, you can take a leisurely stroll along the lake with a view of the majestic Dachstein. Flanked partly by steep cliffs and partly by forest, you’ll pass a meadow that’s perfect for resting and swimming. At the far end of the lake, a forest road branches off toward Hinterer Gosausee. You can take this path for a short hike. To stay on the loop trail, keep to the right. On the other side of the lake, you’ll eventually pass crystal-clear streams and springs, where you might even spot a fire salamander or two. Therefore, pay close attention to current weather conditions and only hike the trail when conditions are safe.* *During thunderstorms, heavy rain, or storms, there is a significantly increased risk of rockfalls and boulder falls, as well as falling branches or tree parts. If conditions develop in this way, you should turn back or avoid the trail altogether.* *Even in winter and spring, avalanches as well as freezing and thawing cycles can increase the risk of rockfalls and boulder falls. Snow, ice, and icy sections of the trail can further compromise safe travel. There is no winter maintenance service.* *Pass through the marked hazard areas quickly and without lingering.
