Birds feel particularly at home in this secluded spot, hence the name of the trail. Along the Sausende Schlucht bird song trail in Peilstein, which stretches over 4.7 km, you will come across 10 information boards about local bird species. There is a QR code on each of these boards, which can be used to listen to the bird song of the species presented. Scan the QR code with your smartphone using the camera or a QR code scanner app to play the corresponding bird song. Marking: yellow aluminium signs with trail number, additional red-white-red tree markings. **0 km** The starting point is at **Gasthof Hubertushof.** You hike a short distance uphill on the asphalt road to the village of Flatting, then turn left and hike along the field path towards the forest and past a wooden barn. *There was a Reich labour camp to the left of the dirt track from 1938-1945. In 1945, the wooden barracks camp was set on fire by Allied tank guns.* At the wayside shrine of St Christopher, the path leads steeply uphill towards the forest. This beautiful hiking section runs parallel to the Kirchbacher Bachl stream through the sea of rocks of the so-called ... **1.3 km Sausenden Schlucht gorge.** This inconspicuous stream often turns into a raging, wild river. Walk consciously through this gorge and listen to the various sounds of the forest. The bird call stations are particularly helpful. When you press the button, you will hear the bird calls of the lark, goldcrest, yellowhammer and other birds. At the stone rest area, we change sides of the stream and find out more at the information board. Here we meet the Hochbühelweg, the path of deceleration and the Falkensteinerweg. Then follow the tarmac road for a short distance until you reach the turn-off to the right onto the field path. **Watch out for the turn-off to the Vogelstimmenweg.** The route continues to the right across a short stretch of meadow towards the forest. At the end of the forest, you will reach the ... **2.5 km gallows square.** *This square probably dates back to the time of the peasant wars, when rebellious peasants were executed here on the old and important peasant path. The last execution was in 1710 - a woman who had poisoned her husband was hanged.* Having reached the highest point of the hike, you now walk downhill along the field and forest path to the ... **3.1 km village of Steinberg.** Above the village, you have a beautiful view of Peilstein and the Kleine Mühltal valley. After the village, at the junction with the Flatting-Kirchbach road, there is a nice rest area in the bend.
