Leaving from Rossleithen, you will hike past the source of the Piessling to the Dümlerhütte, on to the Rote Wand and up to the Warscheneck, returning via the Zellerhütte to Rossleithen. Massive – probably the perfect way to characterize the Warscheneck, which dominates the eastern section of the Totes Gebirge. All paths up to its karst, rocky head are long, where you are greeted by great panoramas of the Alpine Foothills all the way to the Niedere Tauern range. Perhaps the most beautiful of these begins at the scythe factory in Rossleithen and takes you, as in Tour 57, to the origin of the Piessling. Prior to it, after marking No. 293, head right into the forest and to the valley station of the freight lift. Before this, a marked trail begins on the left which – brushing up against roads on several occasions – climbs to the Rossleithenreith. There, path No. 218 from the Gleinkersee joins the trail from the left, along which we ascend via the former Tommerlalm to the Dümlerhütte. Now we follow trail No. 293, which leads via a ridgeline above the Stofferkar to the alpine saddle beneath the Rote Wand (the beautiful view from this summit, which plunges vertically down on its south side, has to be earned by tackling a short, but sharp climb). From the Wurzeralm, the North Alpine Trekking Trail No. 201 rises up to the gap: On this, we climb to the right via a steep, rocky ridge to the crest of the Speikwiese. Passing the dome of the Toter Mann, we come to the uppermost section of the Warscheneck. Via a precipitous, though banked rocky flank, we come to the gently inclined high plateau, where we soon reach the route that comes from the Zellerhütte. Heading left, in just a few minutes we come to the big summit cross. The panoramic view is uniquely beautiful. We return to the turn-off we mentioned before, however from there we make our way down to the left heading north-west on hiking path No. 201 across the bare and barren Arbesboden. Past the Lagersberg and then a steeper descent through areas of pine onto only lightly forested hillsides. Finally, our path meanders down to the Zellerhütte. For the final descent, two paths are available to us: To the right the signs point the way back to Rossleithen (path No. 290, past the somewhat out-of-the-way Windhager See), while the trekking trail heading north takes us to the Schafferteich and Vorderstoder. Character: long, steep and challenging mountain tour through high-alpine karst terrain up to a rocky peak. Some exposed passages demand surefootedness and a head for heights.
