The beautiful trail leads through the unique "Forest of Children": We start at the pilgrimage church in Zell am Pettenfirst, which houses a wonderful baroque altar by Thomas Schwanthaler. At the primary school, an information stand tells us what to do next. Soon a signpost on the left indicates the direction to the Pettenfirst Hütte. After a few houses, you cross a meadow up to the edge of the forest. There you follow the tarmac road to the left, which shortly afterwards becomes a cart track. And now we're off: We find floating leaves and bouncy mushrooms, visit a soapstone nest and, after a suspension bridge, visit the frog king. We soon turn left onto the Mitterweg - not without having inspected the barefoot path first. A little later, we turn right again to climb steeply up to the ridge of the Hausruckwald forest. Passing forest beds, wind chimes and a climbing guitar, we reach a tree swing. Finally, we hike to the right along the path made of petrified gravel and secured with railings to the fairytale station at the hut, passing a fox den and a tree house, among other things. You can walk this path several times - young and old hikers alike will always discover something new! If you don't want to go back the same way, you can choose from several return routes. The shortest branches off to the right 200 metres south of the access road to the hut. If you return to the saddle to the north of the hut, we recommend crossing the ridge to the road to Thomasroith, where there is a descent path to the left via Kreuth. Alternatively, you can follow the forest ridge up and down to the junction with the Ampflwanger Höhenweg. Follow this to the left to the road from Ampflwang to Zell, continue briefly and then turn left down to Roith. From there you return to the starting point on meadow and goods roads.
