Ried im Traunkreis

Ried im Traunkreis, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Ried offers a special look back in time where history has left its mark for visitors to explore and enjoy... Ried has a long history dating back to Roman times. Communications have always been important. There is evidence of a Roman settlement here in the Roman Stone that is integrated in the southern wall of the Church, and in a coin depicting Emperor Probus (282 AD) that was found in a field surrounding Ried in the year 1850.

The Church at Ried probably dates back to the 12th century. The Parish Church´s Patron Saint is St Nicolas. The "Salt Road", a significant Medieval trade route, passed by Ried and made it a frequent coaching place. Many of the inns from that time can still be seen in Ried's streets. In the 14th century the Noblemen of Meurl had their seat on Rechberg Castle which was then let gone to rack and ruins.

Today, the territory of Ried is the site of important sources of oil and operating oilfields.
