Geboltskirchen, as the former border town to Bavaria, was known as a mining town until 1964 after brown coal reserves were discovered in the parish. Nowadays the town is a modern Vitalwelt community with many tourist attractions. One of the things that makes the community with 1,400 inhabitants so attractive for its guests is its countryside location. Geboltskirchen has a calm and yet central location at a height of 555 metres. A further “feel-good factor” is the locals‘ warm and friendly nature which means that “foreigners” quickly become “friends”. The town is ideal not only as a starting point for the many excursion destinations in the area, but also as the place for an eventful family holiday. Gentle tourism, tailor-made relaxation Holidays in Geboltskirchen have nothing to do with package holidays but are instead individual experiences. Hiking fans can get their money’s worth in and around the Hausruck, while fitness fans can make use of Upper Austria’s first Nordic.Fitness.Park, the region’s cycle path network or the tennis courts, sports hall, riding stables and local swimming lake. Even in the colder seasons there are sporting opportunities in the form of snowshoe hikes and a perfectly prepared cross-country ski run. For those who prefer calmer activities, the wellness offering with thermal water provided by many accommodation providers in Geboltskirchen is to be recommended. All guests can enjoy a relaxing end to the day with a get-together in one of the numerous local cider hostelries and guest houses. Scheiben coal station with its rail cycles, miners’ train and mountain trolls is particularly worth a visit. The great exhibits at the Upper Austrian school for the creation of nativity scenes and the source of the Trattnach also deserve a mention. For those who prefer local customs, there is always the opportunity to encounter music societies, folk dancing groups and other societies. If that is still not enough for you, why not play golf on one of the local courses, enjoy the summer toboggan run, demonstrate your courage in the high wire park or enjoy the thermal springs located 29 kilometres away in Bad Schallerbach.
