**The Dachstein Chapel is located right next to the Simonyhütte on the Dachstein mountain range, at an altitude of 2206 meters and is considered the highest church in the Northern Limestone Alps.**
History of the chapel
---------------------
The chapel was built in 1913 by **Linz cathedral architect Matthäus Schlager** and consecrated in 1914 by **Linz Bishop Rudolf Hittmair**, who is also commemorated by the memorial plaque unveiled in the Dachstein Chapel in 1925. The **100th anniversaries** of the laying of the foundation stone and the consecration were celebrated in 2013 and 2014 respectively. The chapel is a **listed building.**
Simony hut
----------
The [**Simonyhütte**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/oesterreich-unterkunft/detail/101637/simonyhuette.html) is located in the immediate vicinity of the **Dachstein Chapel** and has always served as a **shelter** for hikers on the Dachstein.
