On behalf of Dr. Gottfried Schindlbauer, director of the Department of Environmental Protection of Upper Austria, the “propera Medienproduktion GmbH” company planned and designed an exhibition for the “Natura 2000” nature reserve “Oberes Donau- und Aschachtal”. This unique presentation of “Natura 2000” has found its permanent home here and was recently opened by Landesrat Dr. Manfred Haimbuchner. In a building next to the community offices of Engelhartszell, which also inhibits the exhibition “Donau-Geschichten”, the “Infopoint Natura 2000” was created as the only one in Upper Austria. The fifteen exhibition windows display animals in the slope and ravine forests of the Upper Austrian valley. Photograph foils with forest motives evoke the feeling of being in the middle of such a slope forest. Via headphones visitors are informed about “Natura 2000” in different languages. A special highlight of the exhibition is a movie which was filmed during a tour with the traditional boat “Zille” on the Danube and a paraglide flight above the Danube valley. Remarkable pictures and impressions of the Danube valley enchant visitors. The connecting element of “Natura 2000” protection areas is the Donausteig hiking trail, which leads along both shores of the Danube. Thus, a special part of the exhibition is also dedicated to the Donausteig hiking trail. A map pictures the entire route of the trail and a panorama box shows pictures which were taken along the way. The starting point of Donausteig hiking trail in Engelhartszell is located directly in front of the building. The exhibition and the info point is supervised by the local Caritas facility “invita” and can be visited for free.
