It owes its origin to a vow of Count Wolf Dietrich von Rödern, who vowed towards the end of the Thirty Years' War to build a church on the mountain top if Rohrbach would be spared from the raids of the Swedes. As the enemies approached, a dense fog rolled in and they passed Rohrbach along the Great Mill. Because the help of Mary was seen in it, the Maria Trost church was built in place of the ruined castle in 1645/1655. In 1765, the church was so thoroughly restored that one must rather speak of a redesign. In the process, it received its present form and shape. The high altar and side altars date from this period. The pilgrimage church has been a popular attraction for pilgrims, excursionists and contemplative hikers since its existence. Two old crossroads lead to the church on the mountain. Many of the smaller chapels around the mountain are entwined with legends. From the town square you can take the chapel path to the Maria Trost church. Information boards have been set up along the path, providing information about the origin and history of the chapels. In 2016, the pilgrimage church was one of 4 holy gates in Upper Austria. Abbot Martin referred in his sermon to the fact that Pope John XXIII had already spoken of mercy in 1962 at the opening of the Second Vatican Council. Felhofer literally said, "Faith needs not only open hearts, but also merciful hands!" Guided tours: Pilgrimage Church Maria-Trost Guided tours are now also available on the mountain at the popular pilgrimage church Maria-Trost. Depending on the interest, this is limited to the history and explanation of art treasures of the church, or also includes the small monuments around the pilgrimage church. During a walk we also visit interesting chapels such as Maria Schnee or the "Holy Sepulchre" standing in the middle of the forest, which are very close by. Also the legendary "Devil's Chapel" and the statue of St. Ivo, known in Rohrbach-Berg as "Schickanus", complete the walk.This St. "Schickanus" is so called because he offers help in finding a partner: "Send us!".
