The old town hall and the municipal archive were destroyed by the blaze in 1874. After the fire, the administration of the town moved into some rooms into the Town Tower. This was solution limited in time, so the five-storey "Schrannengebäude" and the building next to it were converted into the new town hall. Emperor Franz Josef I (Kaiser Franz Josef I), who was already 73 years old, came to the opening of the town hall.
