This specialist farming museum holds a unique range of traditional tools and implements from the pre-industrial era. Especially worthwhile is the 18 meters long tunnel that was hewn out from granite and still is accessible. Pelmberg Farm is a typical Mühlviertel farmstead in a remote and secluded location. This originally three-sided Mühlviertel farmhouse structure first appeared in historical documents in the year 1325. With an annex built in the 18th century (fruit wine cellar and granary), it became a square shaped farm that was operated until 1953. Among its most striking architectonic features are the thatched roof that weighs some 35,000kg, and the genuine Mühlviertel masonry. For reasons of economy only the interstices were whitewashed. As this completely preserved Mühlviertel farmstead provides a unique opportunity to view an old rural structure of the area in its original form, the Local Heritage Association of Urfahr & Environs decided to transform it into an outdoor museum. There, you can view old agricultural machinery and transport displays of the pre-industrial era that will take you to the hard rural life of yesteryear. Densely overgrown with plants and thicket you´ll find the entrance to the subterranean tunnel. It is 18 meters long and was hewn out from granite. In times of persecution and war, it was used by the farmers as an escape tunnel.
