 War Memorial

St. Martin's Church was secularised at the end of the 18th century by order of Emperor Joseph II and its tower was demolished. However, a late Gothic crypt can be visited, which the first chaplain of St Martin's had built for himself and his descendants from his own funds.

The star-ribbed vault of the three-aisled hall is supported by four massive, octagonal columns. After the Second World War, the crypt was converted into a dignified war memorial. The funerary monument, a massive aluminium block on a tuff base, depicts a dead warrior and is the work of sculptor Alois Dorn.
