After a steep ascent (10 minutes), turn left onto the Höhenweg; the semi-dry grassland is located above the path. Even botanical amateurs will be impressed by the variety of flowers on offer here. The bright red inflorescences of the rare pointed orchid are a special feature. These and other orchids can be found here, sometimes in masses. Mighty trees stand out, but one overlooks the small plants that have prepared the ground for them over the centuries. These plants, known as lichens, are fascinating. We encounter amazing connections like these everywhere in nature. If you keep your eyes and ears open, with each hike you will penetrate deeper into the web of interrelationships that give structure and force to the living world. For nature enthusiasts, every hike is an experience, an expedition into an exotic world. **Public transport:** The Ennstalbahn runs between Linz and Weißenbach-St. Gallen.
