Zwickledt Castle in Wernstein am Inn (Innviertel in Upper Austria) was not only the residence of the Kubin couple for decades, but also the place where Alfred Kubin created the majority of his pictorial work. His famous and only novel "The Other Side" was also written here.Alfred Kubin died in Zwickledt on 20 August 1959 and is buried in the cemetery in Wernstein.Kubin's former home is now owned by the state and has been turned into a museum. (Kubin's living quarters can be visited by appointment). An exhibition room has been set up on the upper floor, where Kubin-related exhibitions and events are organised throughout the year.
