Twist button - or what?
Familiarisation with different button models
When we say "twist button", we primarily mean the simple laundry buttons that were found on all bed linen until about 40 years ago. "Twist buttons", as they are made today, are real pieces of jewellery, beautiful and useful at the same time.
In this course we will learn about different button models, all of which have a ring as a fixed structure. We start with simple laundry buttons ("twist buttons"), make variations of these and gradually produce more and more complex buttons.
Textile buttons have been around in Europe for at least 600 years. The buttons were usually worked over discs and were precious signs of the status and wealth of the wearer (usually men). It was not until the 18th century that a type of ring-based utility button appeared, which ordinary people could later afford.
