Especially its distinctive location makes the Plöckenstein a special feature. It is on the one hand in the border area between the two countries Austria and the Czech Republic, whereby the border takes their course directly over the Plöckenstein. On the other hand, the highest mountain of the Mühlviertel rises at a short distance of only about one kilometer to the border triangle of Austria-Germany-Czech Republic. The impressive high forest has disappeared since 2006. The storm Kyrill and then the bark beetle have done a great job.
