This is where the grandfather of the current owner founded the Mittendorfer company in 1883. Due to the long tradition and the presence of various distilling apparatus, the museum gives you an informative insight into the world of distillation past and present. The opening of the 1st Upper Austrian Schnapps Museum was celebrated on 3 October 2002 at the RZK Gen. Dir. Dr Ludwig Scharinger acted as godfather. The evening's keynote speaker was Prof. Dr Kurt Genrup from the University of Umeà, who compared distillation methods between European countries. In addition to presenting various distillation apparatus, the museum also has the task of providing interesting information about the production of high-proof alcohol, its taxation and the most important aspects of Austrian distilling law.
