The Mühlviertel Forest House and the Interpretive Forest Trail reflect our dependence on nature by explaining the integrated life cycle of wood. The Museum focuses on explaining the various forms of forests. Among the Museum´s most noticeable features are an 80 years old bog spruce, a slice of a 450 years old primeval forest spruce tree, and a 9 million years old piece of petrified wood. With the help of dioramas, visitors will learn about the varied forms a forest may have, from deciduous woodland to Alpine forest. The abundant collections are rounded out by a forest store, a tiny arboretum, and a bucolic farm and herbal garden.

Two kilometers from the Forest House you'll find the Interpretive Forest Trail, where visitors can follow the life-cycle of wood production within a circular 3.5K trail. There are uninterrupted panoramic views of Mühlviertel´s gently rolling foothills, Bohemia, and beyond. A log cabin with barbecue facilities and playground invites ramblers to take some quiet time listening to nature and absorbing the magnificent scenery.

The Museum and the Interpretive Trail reflect our dependence on nature by explaining the integrated life cycle of wood. The Museum focuses on the integrated life cycle of wood and on the efforts to develop integrated environmental, economic, and energy accounting methologies. Visitors will learn to better assess the use of wood as a raw material and to follow the life-cycle of a forest, in symbiosis with mushrooms, root systems, plants and wildlife.
