Reichenthal

Reichenthal, Oberösterreich, Österreich
The 1600 inhabitants of the 10-mill community of Reichenthal can enjoy the whole year round, which is why excursionists and hikers come here: the beautiful landscape typical of the Mühlviertel. It is characterised by gentle hills, green forests and magnificent views. The ancient and rural cultural landscape in the north of the Mühlviertel at about 700 metres above sea level is criss-crossed by idyllic streams and rivers, on the banks of which ten centuries-old mills stand. Away from stress and hectic, it seems as if time follows a different rhythm here. History shows that the name Reichenthal is no coincidence. As early as the 12th century, the northern forest was cleared here and fertile farmland was created. Reichenthal's history is and was shaped by the many mills, ten of which are still preserved today and some of which are even still in working order.

Reichenthal's long history is also closely linked to Waldenfels Castle. It was probably built between 1130 and 1350, but these sources are not confirmed by documents. The connection between Waldenfels Castle and Reichenthal is also expressed in the municipal coat of arms with the hunting falcon of the count's family.
