In the footsteps of the Romans in Wels

Emperor Hadrian has come to Ovilava to assemble a delegation of heroes to help Rome recover from a crisis. As the player makes their way through the city, they track down allies, the heroes of Ovilava, at nine different locations. The stops along the route offer concise historical explanations as well as animated augmented reality presentations. On top of the exciting journey through the city with the Helden der Römerzeit app, the archaeological collections in Wels’ former Franciscan monastery (the Minoriten) are also entirely devoted to Roman history and are an adventure in themselves. 

The former monastery houses an exhibition on the early history of the city of Wels from the Neolithic period to the time of the Baiuvarii. It pays particular attention to the Roman era, which was of such significance for Wels. The exhibits all come from the area around Wels and span a period from the Neolithic to the early Middle Ages. The exhibition begins with the preserved excavations under the former Franciscan church. A model of a Neolithic settlement and original finds are used to illustrate prehistoric times. The main focus of the exhibition is the Roman period. A timeline from around 0 to 500 CE gives an overview of events during the Roman period in Wels, throughout the whole Roman Empire and in cultures that existed at the same time on other continents.
