The Benedictine monastery Lambach, built in the 11th century

Discover “the Marienkloster on the Traun”, walk in the footsteps of Benedictine monasticism. The monastery was founded by Bishop Adalbero in 1056 and is approaching its 1000th anniversary. The Romanesque frescoes in the west choir date from the 11th century, otherwise the Baroque style predominates. The monastery on the river had many good, but also bad years, but the Lambach monastery has survived to this day.

Have you ever sat in a monastery theater that was played for the first time 270 years ago? The only surviving baroque monastery theater in the German-speaking area is still a unique stage for many performances. Or have you ever been amazed by the almost 1,000 year old frescoes, which are among the most important works of art in Europe from the 11th century? You can also admire other art and cultural treasures on a guided tour in Lambach Abbey. Guided tours of the monastery from Easter Sunday to October 31, from Wednesday to Sunday at 2 p.m., for registered groups at any time.
