Mattighofen Castle
Mattighofen, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Dynasties and families lived here and Mattighofen has always been a residence of the important.
In 1551 Christoph von Ortenburg renovated and rebuilt the entire castle, adding two giant towers on both wings (destroyed in 1700), a deep moat around the castle and a new drawbridge. The red marble doorframe, enclosed within the wall and leading to the upper floor, is dating back to the late 16th century and ranks among the castle´s highlights. Today you can admire the door with ancient inscriptions right next to castle´s entrance on the right. The Renaissance-style gable features the heraldic emblem of the Ortenburg Family and the Fugger Dynasty.
